How does it work?

Documentation

Your medical history is securely and confidentially kept by the Village Manager to ensure a proper response in case of emergency or illness. Where a Registered Nurse is engaged on site, he/she will have confidential access to these records.

Vial of life

When you move into a Living Choice village you will place a “vial of life” in your fridge. It doesn’t contain the elixir of youth, rather all essential medical and personal details for the care staff to access in an emergency.

Care

What happens if I need more care?

Consult the Village Manager or Registered Nurse who will work with your GP and other allied health professionals to consider and review your individual needs. If one-on-one care is required and appropriate, live-in care by personal care assistants can be arranged (on a user-pays basis). However, the focus of Living Choice is on independence and we have found that only a very few of our residents ever require a high level of care. Where a high level of care is necessary for the comfort and well-being of a resident, it is Living Choice Policy that dedicated services in an appropriate facility is the preferred option and should be pursued without delay.

Acceptance

Any resident of a self-care villa or apartment must be cognitively able to live securely in this environment or otherwise accept care services to the extent that becomes necessary.

If the Village Manager or Registered Nurse deems a resident, in conjunction with the resident’s doctor and other appropriate health professionals, to be at a high risk of injury, either to himself/herself or others, then that resident will be asked to agree to an assessment of their case by the Aged Care Assessment Team from the local hospital.

Care case study

A mother, her daughter and her son-in-law have all moved into Alloura Waters. The mother, 88, lives in a two bedroom villa, while her daughter, 60, and son-in-law, 65, live in a three bedroom villa only 300 metres from her. The mother has needed personal care assistance on a number of occasions, but thanks to the Living Choice care program she has been able to stay in her home, retain her independence and remain living close to her daughter.

Her daughter can go on holidays knowing that her mum is well looked after by the support of the village staff and external services, and that assistance is available immediately through the Emergency Response system. This independence is important to the whole family.

All three are pleased they have moved into Alloura Waters and enjoy taking part in village activities that appeal to them individually and as a family. They love the village environment and the relationships that have developed between staff, management and residents.
