November 2009:
And the winner of Senior Superstar is….
Caloundra RSL was standing room only when a capacity crowd of over 1,000 people came to cheer on and see the diverse range of talent the Senior Superstar finalists had to offer.
13 acts, including singers covering all genres of music, two troupes of tap dancers and even a horse, had everyone entertained.
The judges, performer and producer Paul Dellit, Sunshine FM Radio Station Manager Ken O’Flaherty and special guest judge Living Choice ambassador John Wood, had a tough job on their hands.
In third place was 87-year-old Ann Finch from Birtyina. Three was a lucky number for Ann as this is the third year she has entered. Ann played on the harmonica a Waltzing Matilda/Danny Boy medley. John Wood was impressed, as were the crowd as they sung along to her playing.
Ann won a $300 Woolworths gift voucher courtesy of All Smiles Denture Clinic and a $100 gift voucher from Caloundra RSL.
Johhny Bee, 68 from Currimundi, looked spectacular in a suit he made himself and came in second place as he rocked the house singing the Johnny O’Keefe classic “She’s My Baby”. Johnny won two nights accommodation at Mantra Legends Hotel at Surfers Paradise, a dinner for two in the hotel’s Fables Restaurant compliments of National Seniors Travel plus a $100 gift voucher from Caloundra RSL.
The winners of Senior Superstar Sunshine Coast 2009 were a duo called the Likely Lads who sung a song entitled “Working Where the Sun Don’t Shine”. Dressed in surgery outfits, Brian Williams, 62 from Buddina and Geoffrey Harrod-Eagles, 58 from Minyama, sung an amusing song about the pitfalls of being a “below the waist” surgeon!
Brian and Geoffrey were thrilled to win and can’t wait to use their prize from Travel Train of a trip for two to Cairns on the Sunlander in top-of-the-line Queenslander Class, valued at $3 000. The prize includes four nights accommodation in Cairns, a Cape Tribulation 4WD Safari with Tropical Horizons, and a Kuranda Scenic Railway and Skyrail Experience. They also won a $200 gift voucher from Caloundra RSL.
Living Choice is a major sponsor of the Senior Superstar series which is an initiative of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
