We are delighted to share that the Mount Barker Country Club has officially opened, marking an important milestone as Living Choice’s first land lease community.
The opening was officiated by Mayor of Mount Barker, David Leach, with guest speaker Daniel Gannon, Executive Director | Retirement Living Council, and hosted by Keith Conlon, who guided guests through the formalities.
Designed to support wellbeing, social connection and an active lifestyle, the Country Club strengthens the sense of community at Mount Barker and creates new opportunities for residents to connect.

Location
Living Choice Mount Barker is an over-50s lifestyle village nestled in the Adelaide Hills, and its location is stunning. Positioned adjacent to the beautiful Glenlea Estate, known for its preserved open space, natural woodlands, reserves, walking trails and play areas, Living Choice Mount Barker occupies the parcel of land between Evergreen Drive and Paech Road, extending to the southern end of Glenlea Boulevard.
The newly opened Aston Hills Shopping Centre in Heysen Boulevard, which includes a 2,996sqm Drakes Supermarket and Homestead Meats, is just 5 minutes away. If you want to venture further, the Mount Barker Shopping Centre is just 4.8kms, the Adelaide CBD is an easy 33km drive and you’re close to a diverse range of attractions, from the artisan German village of Hahndorf to wineries, breweries, distilleries, shopping, markets, farm experiences and strawberry picking.

The Homes
Living Choice Mount Barker will comprise 215 beautifully designed 2- and 3-bedroom homes, alongside a Country Club offering a range of premier facilities. Some Stage 1 homes are already move-in ready, with residents calling the village home, while construction continues on the remaining homes.
Each home has been thoughtfully designed for a stress-free, low-maintenance lifestyle. There are 13 different 2- and 3-bedroom designs to choose from, all named after local townships, giving each home a unique connection to the Adelaide Hills community.
Country Club
The Country Club will be the heartbeat of the community – a warm and welcoming space where you can catch up with both friends and family members.
Leisure facilities include an indoor heated pool, gymnasium, surround sound cinema, auditorium with dance floor and stage, library, kitchen and bar area, art and craft studio plus a function room.
There are plenty of outdoor facilities too, including yoga and Tai Chi lawns, a bocce court, pickleball courts and BBQ area. For those who love to travel, there will also be secure caravan and motorhome storage.
Financial Freedom
Enjoy financial freedom with affordable homes, no stamp duty, deferred management or exit fees. At Living Choice Mount Barker, you own your home, live independently and you enter into a secure Site Agreement to occupy the land on which your home sits.
Each fortnight you pay a site fee which includes site rental, council, water and sewerage rates, rubbish collection, emergency service levies, maintenance and running costs of all common facilities including the Country Club, gardening services to shared garden areas and staff costs.
You are protected by the Residential Parks Act 2007 and a Site Agreement of up to 50 years. You may also be eligible for Federal Government Rental Assistance to subsidise the site fee and ongoing government concessions via Residential Parks Energy Concessions and Cost of Living concessions.
Thriving Town Centre
Mount Barker is a thriving residential, commercial and shopping centre boasting all the services you need to enjoy a great lifestyle. There are five shopping centres, four supermarkets, numerous fast-food outlets, a cinema complex, restaurants, pubs, cafes and playgrounds.
Gawler Street is a popular destination for cute cafes, restaurants, bakeries and boutiques. A new masterplan has also been released, which will significantly expand the entertainment and shopping on offer.
Future Town Centre
In November 2021, the masterplan for a $100-million Mount Barker City Centre was unveiled by the Mount Barker District Council and Burke Urban Investments. The masterplan includes a town square, hotel, public library, civic office, co-working hub and community facilities.
Other features include commercial space, residential units, a market shed for artisans and food and beverage outlets. The first stage was anticipated to commence in late 2022.
Sport and Recreation
Mount Barker has numerous sporting and recreational facilities - and they are all available close by. Play golf at Aston Hills Golf Club, enjoy a game of undercover bowls at Mount Barker Lawn Bowls Club or watch the footy at the Mount Barker Oval, next door to the Recreation Centre.
A major aquatic and leisure centre has been approved within a precinct bordered by Bald Hills and Springs Road. Construction is targeted to commence in May 2023 with completion by October 2024.
Another popular attraction is The Keith Stephenson Park, which has a lake, playground, skate park and a 3km linear trail which goes to the Laratinga Wetlands, a popular spot for birdwatching.
If you want to venture further, scale the Mount Barker Summit and soak up the panoramic views stretching across the Adelaide Hills.
Explore the Area
Mount Barker is close to the Laratinga Wetlands, a haven for bird-watchers, and the Keith Stephenson Park with its many walking and cycling trails. Mount Barker is also home to the famous Adelaide Hills Farmers Market, held every Saturday morning, and the Steam Ranger Heritage Railway.
Just a 10-minute drive from Mount Barker is the charming town of Hahndorf, Australia's oldest surviving German settlement, and nearby attractions of The Cedars (home and studio of Sir Hans Heysen), Beerenberg Farm, where you can go strawberry picking, and Hahndorf Farm Barn.
Other areas worth visiting are Nairne, Hay Valley, Littlehampton and Totness.
