There was very little glamour on show at Flemington for this year’s Melbourne Cup but at Living Choice Fullarton, residents and visitors dressed up like never before, donning beautiful hats, fascinators, stunning dresses, top hats, suits and jackets to celebrate “the race that stops the nation”.
The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly never stopped the Fullarton residents from having fun – albeit in a safe way – and organiser Helen Bonet and the amazing team at Damien on Fisher Restaurant were determined to ensure that the 2020 Melbourne Cup lunch at Fullarton was still a showstopper. Sixty residents and 12 visitors attended the event and while it was hot 34 degrees outside, the air-conditioned lobby area and restaurant provided the perfect venue. Residents were invited to dress their own table, with Lois Gasking’s beautifully adorned table taking first prize.
Prizes were also awarded to Ron Barton and Jan Jones (Best Coordinated Couple), Bette Hall (Best Ladies’ Hat), Ross Sweet (Best Men’s Hat) and Jan Sweet (Best Dressed). Damien served an alternate drop of roast chicken or barramundi served with roasted vegetables, followed by a delicious tiramisu. Take a bow, everyone, for hosting such an enjoyable event. Now the countdown starts to the fully booked Cabaret event being hosted at the village on Saturday 14th November – yes, the fun never stops at Fullarton!
