A very special Christmas lunch at Glenhaven
We love it when a plan comes together – especially at Christmas time.
With many Living Choice Glenhaven residents facing Christmas alone, due to COVID cases affecting family celebrations, Regional Manager Gail Eyres and a group of volunteers arranged Christmas lunch in the leisure centre. And what a wonderful occasion it was.
Around 25 residents attended, including Kevin Jordan who described it as “absolutely beautiful” and Bill Shelley, who said it was the “shining beacon” of his Christmas Day.
“COVID caught up with my family and our lunch had to be cancelled,” said Bill. “Fortunately, I could attend the lunch at the village and I could not fault the service – my plate was never empty!”
Everyone raved about the lunch, which included prawns, chicken, ham, potato salad made by Gail’s daughter, two delicious salads made by resident Lesley Martin, a coleslaw salad, garden salad, plus bread rolls.
“To top it off, we had pavlova, fruit mince pies and a friend of mine also made a fabulous Christmas pudding,” said Gail.
Thank you to everyone who contributed their time to make this year’s Christmas lunch at Glenhaven so special - and thank you to Yvonne Lorenzi for the wonderful photos!
