All the magic of a rainbow at SA Gala Reward Event

“Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue. And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.” – Judy Garland.

Perhaps `Over the Rainbow’, the iconic song performed by Judy Garland, was on the Living Choice SA team’s mind when they chose a `rainbow’ theme for the SA Gala Reward Event held at Living Choice Woodcroft on 6th September. Rainbows signify optimism, positivity, joy, inspiration and good fortune – and these were certainly all on show at the annual SA event to reward those who have referred a friend or family member to a Living Choice village.

Also on show was the wonderful sense of community at the Woodcroft, Fullarton and Flagstaff Hill villages, an important benefit of retirement village living that was highlighted by Living Choice Director, Graham Hobbs. Graham gave great examples of the advantages of community living that he had personally witnessed at Woodcroft – mates chatting in the gym, residents at a coffee group catch-up and the lengthy monthly calendar of events scrolling on the TV screen in the auditorium. “This fantastic sense of community is something that people in the suburbs just don’t have,” he said.

More than 130 people attended the colourful event, including 30 successful referrers who were whittled down to two in the elimination draw to win the top prize of a $5,000 UChoose Gift Card, with a $200 gift card as the second prize. Offered the opportunity to split the prize, Sandra Lunn, who was referred by her daughter, Melissa Roocke, and Cath Lyon, who referred her parents, Colin and Judy Styles, did not hesitate to share the winnings. Both were Living Choice Flagstaff Hill referrals, a pleasing result for the fledgling village.

While the `pot of gold’ was won by Melissa and Cath, there was still plenty for everyone else to enjoy with the highlight being the awe-inspiring singing by Henry Olonga. Henry, who is well-known as a former cricketer, playing Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket for Zimbabwe, received enthusiastic applause for his beautiful singing, with his spine-tingling performance of `Nessun Dorma’ resulting in a standing ovation.

Take a bow, Henry, the SA staff members and their helpers for a truly memorable event!
