Aston Hills gets `thumbs-up’ from Southern Group Vets

The Southern Group Veteran golfers travelled to the beautiful Aston Hills Golf Club for their May game, with President John Weeden reporting that Mount Barker was a “wee bit brisk and chilly but thankfully, there was no rain”.

“Fifty-eight players turned out to enjoy the day, which was a disappointing turnout, however the course was in excellent condition and the greens were in top shape, despite coring taking place only four weeks previously. There were some great scores in all three grades and everyone enjoyed the day,” he added.

Well done to the winners:

• Division 1: 1st Eric Abdilla 37pts, 2^nd Paul Mills 36, 3^rd David Crabb 36.
  Division 2: 1^st Peter Pedersen 38pts (overall winner), 2^nd Keith Thorogood 34, 3^rd Mark Bonner 33.
• Division 3: 1^st Chris Galley 36pts, 2^nd John Coombe 36, 3^rd Greg Murdock 36.
• Women: 1^st Sandy Hodge 27pts.
• Longest drive: Women – Marie Wickstein, Div 1 – Rob Turnball, Div 2 – Steve French, Div 3 – Chris Galley.
• Nearest the pin: David Crabb (hole 12), Marie Wickstein (hole 15).

The next Southern Group Vets’ game will be held at McCracken on 5th June.
