TW Bowls prizegiving

Bowls, fun and friendships celebrated at Twin Waters

Since its opening in mid-2003, the bowling green at Living Choice Twin Waters has played an important part in promoting camaraderie and lasting friendships at the village.

Interestingly, the group’s members are not all active bowlers. Some residents have been members in the past and are members for life, so they are still able to join in the social activities and keep in touch with their bowls friends and enjoy regular social activities, including bowls brekkies and monthly dinners.

Initially, bowls was played three times a week but in 2016 this was increased to five times per week to encourage beginners.

Over the past 18 months, some of the regular activities were curtailed due to COVID-19 restrictions, however the group is now functioning at full capacity and more than 75 members turned out to support the annual prizegiving at a lunch held in the leisure centre on 18th November.

At the lunch, the Living Choice Triples Trophy was presented to Beris Blake, Margaret Black and Ian Carolyn, the winners of a new competition played over several weeks. Several Living Choice staff members also attended the lunch, including Regional Manager, Tracy Blair, Maintenance Manager and elite bowler, Dave Forrest and National Marketing Manager, Linda Hooper.

A “bowls arm” was also donated and presented by Ian Rolle to outgoing Bowls Co-ordinator, Graeme Lavender. Graeme has been ably assisted by fellow bowlers Warwick Moody, Maureen Rutschack and Jack Green and he thanked his team for their support and assistance.

Special mention to Lynne Mills and her team of volunteers who prepared and served the most delicious lunch – Italian Meatballs (her son-in-law’s recipe) and Bread & Butter Pudding (her mum’s recipe). Everyone agreed it was wonderful to have a home-cooked lunch – and it was another great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the bowls group.
