Construction starts on $40-million Estia Sunshine Cove Aged Care Residence
Sunshine Cove is set to welcome a brand new, $40 million aged care residence, with Mayor Mark Jamieson joining forces with aged care provider Estia Health on Tuesday 15th May to turn the first sod.
Estia Health CEO and Managing Director Norah Barlow said the home would assist in catering to the region’s ageing population, incorporating 126 rooms with private ensuites.
“Currently, more than 20 per cent of Sunshine Coast residents are aged 65 and over – a figure almost six per cent higher than the state average,” Ms Barlow said
“There is undoubtedly a need for more aged care services in the region, and with the new Maroochydore CBD fast coming to life, we envisage there will be a strong demand for centrally located accommodation in the area.”
Ms Barlow said the two-storey home would comprise an activities room, cinema, library and private dining room for small gatherings.
“We’re also thrilled to have a modern hairdressing salon located on the premises, and an in-house café where residents can enjoy a freshly prepared, nutritious meal with family and friends.
“The dedicated Memory Support Unit will incorporate 18 beds and cater to residents with conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.”
The sod-turning follows the official opening of Estia Health Twin Waters in December 2017, further cementing the company’s presence on the Sunshine Coast.
Ms Barlow said like the Twin Waters venue, Estia Health Sunshine Cove would be uniquely co-located with a Living Choice retirement village.
“Living Choice has already commenced construction on a number of residential homes in Sunshine Cove, and we’re excited to be bringing our aged care offering to life as well.”
“We anticipate construction of Estia Health Sunshine Cove will conclude around mid-2019, with residents able to move in shortly thereafter.”
Mayor Jamieson said the development would contribute positively to the Sunshine Coast economy.
“More than 60 tradespeople are expected to be on-site at the peak of the construction period and Estia Health’s commitment to using a local workforce is certainly encouraging,” he said.
“This aged care facility will play an important role in servicing the current and future needs of the Sunshine Coast community.”
The aged care home will also have registered nurses on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and consultation rooms allocated for visiting medical professionals and allied health services.
