Deepwater Court residents and Woy Woy Pre-School keep connected
The residents at Living Choice Deepwater Court have had a long and happy association with the Pre-School pupils at Woy Woy Public School, which is situated across the road from the village. For the past two years, seven of the residents have taken turns to visit the Pre-School every Wednesday but the visits stopped when the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded.
“We had not been able to visit since March and at Easter the teachers sent us home-made scones, jam and cream, a hamper of Easter eggs, biscuits, tea etc. to share with fellow residents,” said resident Thea Brayshaw. “They also gave us a beautiful book of pictures that were taken when we visited the children during the previous year, as well as a video. We were so appreciative of their kindness and the thought behind it.”
Recently, the residents received a beautiful book of drawings from each child along with a message saying how much they missed the residents’ visits. “It bought a tear to the eye looking through the drawings – what a lovely gesture,” said Thea.
The residents decided to make the children a thank-you card. They had a photo taken and each wrote a little note to the children. Just before the September school holidays Thea asked the school if they could meet the children at the fence and present them with the card.
“It was beautiful to catch up with them again – while social distancing of course – and present them with the thank-you card,” said Thea. “The School Principal thanked us and said they hoped it would not be long before we could meet up with them all again. We do miss our visits as we enjoyed our hourly visit each week and it is such a lovely “community connection”. The children call us `Our Friends across the Road’.”
