Heart-warming support for Youth Opportunities Golf Day
For the past 16 years, Youth Opportunities has arranged a golf day at Glenelg Golf Club to raise funds for its many programs which assist youth at risk. It’s the hottest ticket in town, with players including business, community and philanthropic leaders.
For the organisers, it’s a mammoth undertaking, starting with a cooked breakfast, a fun Ambrose competition, loads of raffles and hole activations, including tasting plates and premium beverages. After the golf, there is also a prizegiving dinner and auctions.
This year’s golf day, presented by Tanti Constructions, attracted 108 golfers, including a Living Choice team led by director, Graham Hobbs. James Brownsworth of Innovative Planning Solutions in Maroochydore brought three teams and also generously contributed $1,000 towards Youth Opportunities Make or Break Challenge. Living Choice has been a Gold Sponsor at the golf day for many years, along with NAB and Magain Real Estate. Living Choice staff members, comprising Regional Manager, Katherine Stacey, Teresa Allan, Sue Lock and David Brookman, were at the 8th hole where they ran a lucky ball competition for Youth Opportunities to win $1,000.
Events and Sponsorship Manager, Renae Montaniero, said she was delighted to announce that the golf day raised a whopping $90,000 year. “We’ve had great feedback,” said Renae. “We still have players returning who took part in the very first event so there’s a close community that’s formed around the day.”
It’s not surprising that the players return year after year. To start the day, guests enjoyed a BBQ breakfast, baked goods from Vili’s, an on-course BBQ with seared beef fillet, cheese platters, gin, red wine by Miracle Hill, Coopers beer, and other beverages. There were also mini games on the course, including nearest to the pin, longest drive, a Pro hole and a hole in one competition, with the prize being a Porsche Macan.
After the golf, guests enjoyed drinks and networking at the clubhouse, followed by a fundraising dinner which included a wine wall plus a silent and main auction. FIVEaa Radio was there for a live broadcast of its sports show. The dinner host/MC was FIVEaa radio personality, Stephen Rowe, and the auctioneer was Travis Denham from Magain Real Estate.
