Living Choice Footy Tipping comp gets everyone excited… and the winners are
The annual Living Choice Footy Tipping Competition is always keenly contested by residents and staff members and this year was no different. DAVE GRASSBY REPORTS
Well Tipsters, we have come to the end of another exciting year of tipping with the winners and placegetters of both comps being decided by the last game of 2023. Both code Grand Finals could have swung either way and literally came down to the final minute of each game. Saturday the Pies took on the Lions in what was a game that changed leaders over 16 times in an epic performance, with the Pies holding on with seconds to spare in front of 102,000 screaming fans. Then Sunday night we watched Brisbane jump out to a 16-point lead with 20 minutes to go only to be run down by Nathan Cleary’s brilliance to give Penrith their 3rd win in a row. One for the ages. Both games capped off a thoroughly enjoyable year for both codes.
In our NRL comp, it was a very congested pointy end right through until the last 4 weeks when the cream rose to the top. Congratulations to Michael Levick our super salesman from Parkwood on the Gold Coast who despite being a passionate Bulldogs supporter tipped with his head to take 1st place. Coming in 2nd place was a previous winner Thea from our Deepwater Court Village on the Central Coast. Thea loves the Rabbitohs so they did make it hard for her towards the end. 3rd place was John from our Broadwater Court Village on the Central Coast. John was very happy to have done so well (his wife Kathy had won previously) and they are looking forward to next year going head-to-head again.
Our AFL comp this year was hectic, to say the least. Many tried to last the distance only to fall away running into the finals. Congratulations to our 1st place winner, Robin Davidson from our beautiful Village at Glenhaven in Sydney. Robin’s husband has not been too well recently and Robin has had the help of her lovely granddaughter placing the tips each week so a special thank you to her. 2nd place was Barry from our South Australian Village, Woodcroft. Barry tried very hard to win this year and sends congratulations to Robin. Coming in 3rd place was Geoff from our Twin Waters Village in sunny Queensland. Geoff sent me an email and was very excited having done so well to take 3rd place in the final game.
A special call out to our owners Graham and Ian who again have contributed $1,000 to each footy comp. I know they enjoy the banter between residents and staff over each team's performance on and off the field. Next year will be our 12th year of this great competition so keep an eye on the gains and losses of each team. See you all in 2024!!
