Month-long SALA exhibition opens at Fullarton
Every year in August, hundreds of venues in South Australia join together to present the world’s biggest visual arts festival – the South Australian Living Arts Festival (SALA). Started in 1988, this year there are more than 600 exhibitions showing the work of 9,137 artists but one of the most special is the exhibition at Living Choice Fullarton. Where else can you enjoy a full month of amazing art, workshops, demonstrations, music performances and enjoy a coffee, wine or meal at the same time?
Organised by the Art Expression@123 Fisher group - Fullarton resident volunteers who love the arts and music - this is the fifth year a SALA Exhibition has been held at Fullarton. More than 130 people attended the official opening by Sasha Grbich, Lecturer at the Adelaide Central School of Art, on Tuesday 3rd August. The exhibition includes 104 artworks by 49 artists, including members of the Fullarton Art Space.
Living Choice Ambassador Keith Conlon OAM was the MC for the evening and paid special tribute to exhibition curator, Helen Hammond, Joan Ogden, Anne Radovic and their large team of helpers for their hard work leading up to the exhibition. Later, Keith hopped on the drums to join popular pianist, Kerin Bailey who entertained everyone throughout the evening.
Brigid Alfred from the SALA Management Team had the pleasant duty of introducing the artists and generous cash prizes were awarded for the best artworks. Congratulations to the winners, Kathleen Cain and John Lacy (joint 1st), Jo Chinner and Mary Reedman (joint 2nd) and Jayson Castor, a Living Choice employee who was voted Best Promising Young Artist. Apart from a cash prize, Jayson also received an original painting by Alvaro Castagnet, whom Jayson hero worships!
The exhibition is open daily at Living Choice Fullarton, 123 Fisher Street, Fullarton from 10am to 8pm until Saturday 28th August. The venue has an onsite restaurant and café, Damien on Fisher, and bookings can be made for lunch or dinner – phone 7111 2690. A full program of events has been arranged – click here
