Mooloolaba Tennis Club
celebrates 75 years

Mooloolaba Tennis Club commemorated its 75th anniversary on Sunday 30th October and, as a major sponsor of its annual three-day Seniors’ tournament, Living Choice was invited to celebrate with members, guests and VIPs.

The fun-filled afternoon included complimentary drinks and canapes, an exhibition match, the cutting of the anniversary cake by Life Member, Ian Reeves and speeches by Brent Mickleberg, State Member for Buderim, Club President, Warren Arnell, Club Secretary, Gavin Reeves and Venue Manager, Adam Kronk. The new hit-up wall was also officially opened.

From humble beginnings with just two courts on the parking reserve in River Esplanade (near the current Wharf complex), Mooloolaba Tennis Club has grown into a thriving club with more than 500 members, 10 courts and four Pickleball/Hotshot courts.

The club relocated to its current site in Lady Musgrave Drive, Mountain Creek in early 1990, after the developers of the Wharf complex made an offer to build four synthetic grass courts, two plexipave courts and a new clubhouse. Many improvements have been made since then, earning the club several major awards.

Since the appointment of Adam Kronk of KT Academy as Venue Manager in 2015, the number of junior and adult members has grown substantially. Senior and Junior fixtures continue to be well-supported, as are the Ladies, Men’s and Mixed Social Groups.

The annual Living Choice Seniors’ tournament is always very popular, with this year’s event attracting 146 players from all over QLD, interstate and from New Zealand.

One thing that has not changed over the past 75 years is the tireless efforts of the many volunteers who provide a wide range of support and assistance, from administration, catering, building and maintenance to gardening. With such strong support from its volunteers and long-time members, the club is set to enjoy a bright future.
