Parkwood Seniors and Veterans Golf Association Event

North Gold Coast District Veteran Golfers Association Round 7 for 2024 was again proudly sponsored by Living Choice Parkwood. This annual event is staged at Parkwood Golf Club and hosted by the Parkwood Seniors and Veterans Golf Association; with this year’s event being held over 2 days.  Day 1 teed off with a Team Matchplay Event between Parkwood Seniors & Veterans Golf Club Members and a team of Goondiwindi Veteran Golfers.

Day 2 Thursday 22nd August was an 8am shotgun start with a field of 136 players from a range of Gold Coast Golf Clubs enjoying both fantastic weather and excellent course conditions. The 2 Day team event was won by the Goondiwindi team, led by President Mr Bruce Rae and comprised of many second and third generation farmers, who thrived in the warm Gold Coast weather conditions and on the well-manicured fairways and greens: winning in a canter just like Gunsynd – the famous racehorse known as “The Goondiwindi Grey”.

Alan Mcdonnell Parkwood Seniors & Veterans President during the presentation lunch thanked his hard-working committee and expressed his appreciation to Living Choice Parkwood for their ongoing generous sponsorship, which ensured today’s event was one of the best on their calendar.

Tony Kent the District Secretary (and national tournament director) advised the exciting news that the Northern Gold Coast & District Veteran Golfers Association will also be hosting the 2026 Australian Veteran Golfers Union National Championships, which rotates annually around the states and territories. In addition, the district is also hosting the State Championships in May 2025 over 2 days – Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th (golf courses to be finalised in coming weeks).

Great camaraderie, and friendly banter was on display during the lunch presentation of roast chicken wrapped in Prosciutto ham stuffed with mushrooms, accompanied by chips and coleslaw on the menu. A mega raffle with over $1,2000 in prizes including golf bags, golf hampers, range finders, and wine packs ensured just about everyone left feeling like a winner.
