Parkwood Seniors & Veterans Commemorate Anzac Day

The threat of morning storms did not deter a one hundred strong field that included fifteen war veterans from attending the Parkwood Seniors & Veterans Anzac Day golf competition and lunch on Tuesday 23rd April. The earlier date selected so as not to clash with Official Anzac Days Events on Thursday 25th April such as Dawn Services and Anzac Day Marches.

Alan McDonell Seniors and Veterans President spoke about the significance of Anzac Day in unifying all Australians especially due to current national and world events. Alan acknowledged the efforts of both past and present Australian and New Zealand soldiers. “Their endurance, courage, ingenuity, good humour, and mateship – is what we’ve come to know as the ANZAC spirit.”

Jake O’Donnell responded on behalf of the past and present War Veterans, reciting the Ode “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. We will remember them.”

Following the commemorative activities a hearty chicken schnitzel, chips & salad with Original Anzac biscuits (made to the traditional recipe) assisted to lighten the sombre mood. The event concluded with prize presentations and the drawing of the raffles capping of a very memorable and special event.
