Record turnout for Living Choice Seniors’ Tennis Tournament

With no seniors’ tennis tournaments taking place in Australia since March, it’s not surprising that the first seniors’ tournament permitted since the outbreak of COVID-19 attracted such a big turnout!

The Living Choice Mooloolaba Seniors’ Tennis Tournament was given the green light by Tennis Seniors’ Australia just a few weeks before the event was scheduled to take place on 17th, 18th and 19th July and Tournament Director Warren Arnell had his hands full trying to accommodate the 149 players who competed in the age group events ranging from 35+ to 75+. Matches were played at several tennis centres across the Sunshine Coast, however most of the action took place at Mooloolaba Tennis Club where players from not only the Sunshine Coast but Brisbane and the Gold Coast congregated – following social distancing guidelines, of course!

Hand sanitiser, attendance registration forms and tapping racquets, instead of handshakes, were the order of the day but no-one seemed to mind as they were just happy to be competing again. Living Choice supplied a beautiful hamper for the lucky draw, which was won by Patsy Wilson of Buddina. Patsy said she entered the tournament at the last minute. “I’ve never won anything in a lucky draw so I’m thrilled!” she said. Congratulations Patsy!

A huge thank-you to Warren Arnell and his helpers, especially the ladies in the kitchen who kept everyone well-fed throughout the weekend. Thank-you, too, to Vicki Perlic who took most of the photos featured.
