GH Christmas 20

Residents get into the festive spirit at Glenhaven

By Dianne Parrey

Once again Springfield House proved to be a great venue for the annual Living Choice Glenhaven Residents’ Christmas Lunch. This year our numbers were almost halved due to the need for social distancing, however this did not prevent us from having a lovely day.

The canapes were delicious as was the lunch of ham, turkey and vegetables, followed by apple tart or Christmas pudding. The seating was randomised, and many of us met Residents we had not met before.

Lorna Clayton provided us with a few words which were both humorous and touching, before proposing the Toast to Absent Friends. Pat Waters said Grace before we began our lunch.

Village Manager, Gail Eyres and Assistant Village Manager, Namrata Bhandari arrived at 1.30pm and chatted briefly to each table before Gail spoke. She thanked us for our observance of the restrictions put in place in the village, the benefits of living in our friendly community, and expressed her pleasure at seeing village activities gradually resuming.

Peter Henderson voiced his thoughts on how well the village had been managed through this difficult year and wished one and all a very Merry Christmas.

Twelve Lucky Door prizes were drawn by Jan Utick and Clare Ellis, all but two of them going to tables at one end of the room, causing much hilarity. The lucky winners were Ann Gittens, Rob Grant, Joyce Christophers, Pauline Sammut, Sandra Clisby, Bob Junor, Stella Schultz, Gail White, Kevin Bastian, Barb Horner, Peter Baker and Judy Pentecost. Rosemary Grant’s name was also called however she requested a re-draw as Rob had already won a prize.

As usual the Prize Table and the Lucky Door Prizes were beautifully presented by Yvonne Lorenzi. Thanks to all members of the Social Sub-Committee for their contributions in making this a most enjoyable day!
