Retirement Living Council members network at Kawana Island

The auditorium at Living Choice Kawana Island is a busy place, used for dinners, dancing, exercise classes, indoor bowls and even a planking challenge. On Thursday 29th July, it was also put to good use for an important industry event when Sunshine Coast and Brisbane members of the Retirement Living Council (RLC) came together to network, receive an update about the RLC’s vital advocacy work and learn more about the Code of Conduct rollout. Bruce Samazan, Head of New Media Downsizing.com.au, also spoke on “What does Downsizing look like in 2021?”.

Village Manager Russ Dunstan and his team rolled out the red carpet for fellow RLC members and were ably assisted by Residents’ Chairperson, David Thomas and Finance Committee member, Cyril Gaudart, who served drinks from the village’s bar.

The RLC is part of the Property Council of Australia and attendees included the RLC’s Executive Director - Retirement Living, Ben Myer, Code Administrator, Megan Hobson, Policy & Communications Adviser, Francis Quinlivan, Patrick Tilley, Policy & Stakeholder Advisor and Justin Lorenz, Chairperson of the QLD Retirement Living Committee. Many local retirement living operators attended too, including Living Choice staff members.

The event was sponsored by Healthy Environments and Brockenchack Wines and local favourite restaurant, Mykies on the Bay, was contracted to supply the delicious food. All agreed the regional event was a valuable networking opportunity and are looking forward to repeating it again soon.
