Senior golfers `go green’ at Parkwood
Michael Levick reports
“Going Green” was the theme for the annual Parkwood Seniors and Veterans’ St Patrick’s Golf Competition played at Parkwood Golf Course on Thursday 16th March.
The popular annual event, sponsored by Living Choice Parkwood, teed off at 7am with 111 entrants playing a modified Team Irish Stableford. In this competition format all players play out each hole as in a normal Individual Stableford, with the team score being calculated as follows: On the Par 3’s the best single team member score is counted, on the Par 4’s the 2 best scores count and on the Par 5’s the 3 best scores count. The course conditions and weather on the day were ideal with the overall winning team scoring a very respectable 87 points.
Lunch was a traditional steak and Guinness pie with chips and salad, many saying it was the “best pie they had ever eaten”. Festivities on the day also included a best Irish dress competition with the individual winners being Robbie Rickett and Colin Fields and the team winners being the Shamrock Girls – Clare Austen, Christa Green, Francis Finlayson and Judy Pugin. The day also included a mega raffle with a huge range of prizes, including a golf bag, polo shirts, 6 packs of Guinness and Stone & Wood, wine packs, golf balls and golf towels.
Michael Levick of Living Choice Parkwood provided an update on construction and sales, announcing that Living Choice was delighted to be the naming rights sponsor for the inaugural Seniors’ Open Competition being held at Parkwood Golf Course on Monday 17th & Tuesday 18th April, with entry nominations now being taken. He also congratulated Alan McDonnell (President) and all the committee members on staging yet another enjoyable, fun and memorable event.
