Sharing the retirement living journey together

Mental Health Month is held in October each year, providing an opportunity to raise awareness about mental health and wellbeing through running a broad campaign and supporting community events. It’s also a great month to promote activities and ideas that can have a positive impact on our daily lives and the lives of others.

This year, the theme of Mental Health Month is “Share the Journey”, which is exactly what residents at Leisure Lea Gardens are doing every day – sharing their retirement journey together in a supportive environment where there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy positive social interaction.

Loneliness is one the biggest problems affecting the over 65s but by moving into a retirement village, they become socially connected to both staff members and fellow residents. At Leisure Lea Gardens, residents are  enjoying a wide range of activities in communal areas, beautiful gardens, a great BBQ area and an Atrium with a library and plenty of games.

There is also a packed activities program for residents to choose from: Cards and scrabble on Saturdays, Rummykub and board games on Sundays, indoor bowls, Mahjong and darts on Mondays, exercises, computer club and trivia on Tuesdays, bingo on Wednesdays, Zumba and craft on Thursdays and exercises and the Afternoon Tea Club on Fridays. There are also regular Happy Hours, social outings and shopping trips. There’s no time to be lonely!

Research has also shown that those who are happier live longer. This is certainly the case at Leisure Lea Gardens which has been home to some residents for more than 25 years.
