The Kawana Island raffle that everyone wanted to win!

At Living Choice Kawana Island, there was one very special Christmas raffle prize that everyone wanted to win in the lead-up to Christmas – a magnificent wooden jeep, complete with two surfboards, a trailer and beach buggy, beautifully handcrafted by resident Don Lindsay.

The raffle was a fundraiser for the Kawana Island Toymakers and residents, their friends and staff members dug deep, raising $682. The Toymakers have earned much acclaim over the past 10 years, making hundreds of toys for underprivileged children, and the money will be used to buy screws, glue and paint for their Christmas 2021 collection.

The raffle was drawn just before Christmas and long-time staff member, Benita Cheatley, was the delighted winner. Her partner, Alan, had spied it at one of the village events and Benita had no hesitation in giving it to him on Christmas Day. It has pride of place in his bar – or Taj Mahal, as Benita calls it. No doubt, it will be a talking point for all those who visit his bar – and a fitting reminder of the talented Toymakers at Kawana Island!
