The race that stopped Living Choice Woodcroft

As the race that stops the nation was taunted by COVID-19, Flemington Racecourse fell silent whilst Living Choice Woodcroft celebrated with wine, beer and a lot of cheer.

The residents came frocked up to the nines. Stylish dresses, suave suits and the occasional top hat or two. But most importantly everyone arrived with a smile on their face and a heart full of gratitude that an event could go ahead in these uncertain times.

As the 99 guests arrived at the COVID-Safe venue and took their seats, the wine bottles popped, the beer was flowing, and the laughter started. A superb lunch of Roast Beef or lamb was served and then followed the desserts, Cheesecake or Meringues. Thanks to the team at Let’s Eat Catering who not only put on a delicious lunch but made sure the washing up was done afterwards.

It would not be the Melbourne Cup without a fashion on the fields. Of course, everyone deserved an award, but we must appreciate those who took it to the next level. There were four awards up for grabs - best hat and best dressed in both the female and male category.

Best male hat – Ron Pike

Best female hat - Bev Langrehir

Best dressed male - Keith Jones

Best dressed female- Betty Beeche

As the afternoon wrapped up and everyone helped pack away the chairs and tables, residents were already expressing the sentiment ‘we can’t wait for next year’!
