Two hundred and eighty-eight tennis players from all corners of Australia, plus New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and the UK, converged on the Gold Coast Seniors’ and Miami Tennis Clubs from Thursday 30th June to Monday 4th July to compete in the annual QLD Seniors’ Tennis Tournament.
Sponsored by Living Choice and Elektra Life magnesium creams, the wet weather forced the cancellation of play on both Friday and Saturday, however Tournament Director, Gail Bates and Tournament Manager, Steve Longworth managed to pull off a miracle, squeezing all the scheduled matches into three days, albeit with shortened sets.
On the days when matches could not take place, players filled the Gold Coast Seniors’ clubhouse to capacity, taking the opportunity to renew friendships with interstate and overseas players and enjoying a plentiful supply of food and drink served by the hard-working club staff throughout the five days.
Special mention must go to the two UK players, Carol Davies and Dorothy Bamber, aged in the 80’s, who made the long trip to compete in the tournament. Both won medals, making the trip worthwhile.
At the tournament, Living Choice took the opportunity to showcase its retirement living communities at Twin Waters and Kawana Island, plus its new exciting village overlooking the golf course at Parkwood on the Gold Coast. Living Choice also sponsored a luxury hamper - congratulations to the winner, Don Greeff from the Sunshine Coast.
