Twin Waters residents dig deep for The Shack

Twice a year the generous retirement village residents at Living Choice Twin Waters host a Morning Tea for The Shack Community Centre, a local Sunshine Coast group which assists the needy, where they raise funds and donate goods to the centre.

The centre, which was established in 2002, is run by Pastor Dale and Donna Dowler and a committed group of volunteers who have given their time and resources to help thousands of people over the years. They do amazing work within the Sunshine Coast community (and beyond) by helping those who are homeless, battling addiction, are victims of domestic violence, and more. The Shack is dedicated to providing support and counselling and the best bit? Their doors are always open to those who need a safe haven!

This year’s Christmas Morning Tea appeal was nothing short of amazing, with over $2,227 raised through donations and raffles, plus many bags of non-perishable food which will go directly to those struggling at this time of year. Some big ticket household goods were also donated by Living Choice and the residents, including a refrigerator, washing machine, couches and kitchen utensils. These will go into one of the seven brand new apartments that The Shack is building for the community. Living Choice also donated a beautiful hamper and a $100 restaurant voucher to raise funds for the lucky draw.

A huge thank-you to Twin Waters residents, Ian and Maree Lawson, who work closely with Pastor Dale Dowler at The Shack to make these events possible, and to Thelma Richardson and her amazing kitchen team who always put on a great Morning Tea for everyone.
