Twin Waters residents generously support
The Shack
Living Choice Twin Waters residents Ian and Maree Lawson recently called out for donations of food, winter clothing, blankets, food vouchers and cash for their annual winter drive for The Shack Community Centre in Nambour. In a short time, many items were generously donated, and they had to move their car out of the garage to make room for more.
This is the 21st year that The Shack has been operating. The non-profit organisation is run by Pastor Dale and Donna Dowler and a committed group of volunteers who have given their time and resources to help thousands of people over the years. They do amazing work within the Sunshine Coast community by helping those who are homeless, battling addiction, are victims of domestic violence and so much more.
On Thursday 8th June, residents gathered in the Leisure Centre to enjoy morning tea put on by Thelma Richardson and her team of wonderful helpers. In addition to the many donations, prizes were donated for the raffles with residents digging deep to further support The Shack by buying plenty of tickets. Afterwards, Ian reported that the appeal was nothing short of amazing with $6,032 raised through cash donations and raffles.
Following morning tea, Dale gave an insightful speech sharing how The Shack helps people in need in the local community and how they are in the process of building more much-needed housing. Daniel McCarthy, who was previously homeless, also gave a moving speech about how The Shack had helped him to rehabilitate back into society.
Staff members from The Shack then loaded up the car and trailer with a mountain of goods that will now be distributed to those who are homeless on the Sunshine Coast, making their winter a happier and warmer one.
A huge thank-you to Ian and Maree Lawson, who work closely with The Shack to make the events possible, the team at Twin Waters Pharmacy which helped to promote the appeal, and to Thelma and her kitchen team who always put on a great morning tea for everyone.
