Veteran golfers chip to support flood-ravaged Mildura

Report by Brian Nankivell

Lower Murray & Hills Veteran Golfers, sponsored by Living Choice, decided to continue their annual golf tour to Mildura this year, despite the fact that a couple of courses were still suffering from the 2023 floods.

Our group felt it was important to support the community in Mildura, even though only two of the four golf courses were playable. We were delighted that 35 members shared that view and it turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable week of golf and fellowship.

Riverside Golf Club was one of the worst hit by the flooding, and without pokies or corporate backing, relied upon its members to get back on its feet. Rob from Riverside attended our Tour Dinner and gave a brief talk on the impact of the flooding, as well as some interesting anecdotes about both the flood pathway and behaviour of some neighbours.

Our group from LM & H Vets felt inclined to support their recovery efforts, and to that end raised $820 to donate to Riverside Golf Club. Our picture shows LM & H President, Colin Stevens presenting the funds to Rob from Riverside.

Also shown are the weekly winners of the golf, with photos of Tour Director, Brian Nankivell presenting the winning male trophy to Greg Cotton (134 points from 4 rounds), and the winning female trophy to Vera Nankivell (129 points from 4 rounds). Well done to all participants and congratulations to the winners.

We trust that numbers for this tour will grow back to the usual support for May 2024.
