Veteran golfers converge on South Lakes for State Champs

The highlight of the year for Veteran golfers in South Australia is the annual State Veterans’ Championship which this year was held at South Lakes Golf Course. Living Choice was one of the main sponsors, along with Gemtree Wines and Drummond Golf.

Veteran golfers came from nearly all the metro regions with several from the Mid-North, Barossa and Northern York Peninsula. Congratulations to the State Champion, Geoffrey Ashby!

Vets SA was represented by Kym Bubner (Vets’ SA Secretary) who also won second prize in the Stableford Division 3 category.

Colin Stevens, President of the Lower Murray & Hills Vets, was one of the main organisers and said more than 100 players turned up in drizzling rain with very heavy cloud.

“We were using a combination of the new Mi-Score phone scoring app and regular cards which turned out to be a challenge in itself, but with the fantastic help of the South Lakes Club Captain, Chris and her team, we were able to overcome those obstacles and go and play golf.

“Looking at the weather map we knew it was going to be miserable until around 10.30am when it slowly cleared and the sun shone, drying most of us and our gear out. It looked like a striptease show as players peeled off the layers!”

Colin said the course was in great condition, the club having hosted `Ladies’ May Week’ the previous week.

“The day was very successful with winners taking home Living Choice balls, Living Choice towels, bottles of wine from Gemtee Wines and Drummond Golf gift cards. Living Choice’s sponsorship allowed me to purchase gift cards for all winners. I cannot thank Living Choice enough for supporting our Vets Group.”
