Women upstage the men at Gold Coast Veterans’ Golf Day

A big field of 116 players took part in the annual Gold Coast Veterans’ District Day at Parkwood Golf Club on Thursday 17th August.

The Northern Gold Coast & District Veteran Golfers’ Association holds 10 tournaments each year between February and November. This year, the August tournament was hosted by the Parkwood Seniors & Veterans with players coming from Gainsborough Greens, Parkwood, Tallebudgera and Emerald Lakes. Playing conditions were almost perfect with true greens and lush fairways on an overcast day.

The event was sponsored by Living Choice Parkwood, which is building a luxury retirement village overlooking the Parkwood Golf Course.

Sales consultants, Michael Levick and newly appointed Vickie Lea, set up a Living Choice Parkwood stand on the Par 3, 4th hole where they provided instant `Nearest The Pin’ (NTP) prizes for each group. Michael said the interaction between players and the Living Choice sales team was friendly and informative with many regular players commenting on the recent construction progress.

Michael said that in addition to the Individual Stableford prizes there were 5 Open NTP prizes and one Ladies’ only NTP Second Shot prize.

“Parkwood Veterans’ President, Allan McDonnell, explained this was to ensure equity in prizes awarded and that at least one NTP winner was a lady. He needn't have worried as the 16 ladies in the field of 100 men, with a Matildas-like performance, won an incredible four of the five Open NTPs and the best Ladies Second Shot NTP Hole 11, only requiring one shot!”

At the presentation lunch Allan introduced Vickie who provided an update on the construction progress and awarded the prizes to the winners. “Allan hosted the microphone with his usual expertise and interacted with Christa Green, the Parkwood social convenor, during the raffle draws. The players enjoyed a meal of roast chicken, salad and chips served by volunteer golfers who had participated in the day. All players had an enjoyable day with great companionship,” said Michael.
