Woodcroft residents take on the Adelaide Rally

Living Choice Woodcroft residents Doug Tilley (driver) and Brian Kerton (navigator) participated in the famed Adelaide Rally over the last three events in Doug’s MINI Cooper S Clubman. Here is Doug’s report.

“The 2021 Shannons Adelaide Rally covered nearly 230 competitive kilometres over four days of competition. Featuring some of the country’s finest driving roads, the course was tight, technical, steep and winding. The roads were all bitumen and located throughout the beautiful Adelaide Hills.

“The Rally, claimed to be the largest Tarmac Rally in the world, attracted more than 400 participants along with hundreds of volunteers to ensure its smooth running.

“With a convenient base in the city’s fabled Park Lands and the spectacular scenery of the Adelaide Hills close at hand, the Adelaide Rally combined the best of regional and capital city tourism for an unforgettable experience not found at any other tarmac rally.

“New for 2021, the Shannons Adelaide Rally featured dedicated spectator zones on each day of the event, including the new Wairoa Special Stage on Saturday afternoon, which had been specially designed for viewing the rally field in action. Plus, you could get up close to all the cars at the famous community events – Gouger Street Party, Bridgewater Lunch Stop & Spring Fair, and the East End Finale.

“The Adelaide Rally was part of the South Australian Tourism Commission’s Bloom program of spring events and was one of the first events featuring interstate participants following the opening of state borders on November 23.

“On each day of the rally there were Special Stages where the roads were closed to the public to allow the driver full use of the road.

“The Rally was a test of driver, navigator and car travelling at speed on very tight roads. We had an exhilarating time pushing our MINI to its limits. We finished unscathed and are eagerly awaiting next year’s event.”
