There was a great sense of excitement at Living Choice’s newest retirement village, Living Choice Woodcroft, on Wednesday 6th May with residents, directors and staff celebrating the birth of a new era for the village at a presentation and BBQ.

The 21-year-old village was placed in receivership in May 2012, leaving the 203 residents in limbo until Living Choice purchased it on 1 May 2015.

Residents’ Chairman Doug Tilley said the residents were delighted to shed their previous name of Fernleigh Gardens Retirement Estate and to join hands with Living Choice to make their village the “jewel in the south in retirement living”.

Popular Living Choice ambassador Keith Conlon OAM also attended the celebration and reassured residents that they would now be in good hands. “You’ve had many disappointments in the past but can now look forward to the future with confidence.”

Presentations were made by General Manager Jason Sack and Directors Ian Tregoning and Graham Hobbs, with the highlight being the unveiling of draft plans for the $3-million leisure centre. In its 21-year history, the village has never had a community centre and residents were delighted to hear plans would soon be submitted to the Onkaparinga Council.

The leisure centre draft plans include a large auditorium with dance floor, a cinema, indoor heated pool, residents’ bar and kitchen, library/internet room, craft studio, hair salon and medical rooms for visiting medical practitioners. The plans are in the draft stage and are subject to council approval.

Mr Tregoning also revealed plans to build a further 100 retirement villas and 18 apartments on vacant land on the site, including 6 apartments at the top of the leisure centre.

Following the presentation, everyone enjoyed a BBQ prepared by members of the Rotary Club of Kidman Park and refreshments supplied by Living Choice.
