Eleven years ago Wayne and I decided to make the move to Retirement Living. We looked from Port Macquarie down the coast to Forster, Nelson Bay and finally the Central Coast. We looked at a lot of villages and actually paid a deposit on Brentwood. We were to meet with David Grassby however we rang him and advised of our decision on Brentwood. He then encouraged us still to come and have a look at Alloura, it was the best decision we have ever made. He showed us through the village and a unit he had in our price range. We walked in and even though it was to be refurbished we new we had found our forever home. Alloura Waters Village has a heart and soul, it’s home and when we drive up the driveway from wherever we have been, a warm and wonderful feeling takes over. We have made so many true friends and really enjoy all the Social Activities provided by the Social Committee, we even have our own band. We also have a great bar which is patronised by many at our Friday and Saturday Happy Hours and boy do we get Happy! We have many activities and our hard working Committee Members look after any issues should they arise. Wayne and I often sit in our lounge room and know we are truly blessed to live in such a happy place, Our Home! Carol and Wayne Peel

Ken & I moved here in October 2015. We lived at Forster and decided it was time to move to a Retirement Village. We searched north from Forster and then came south. After looking at over 10 villages, we drove into Alloura Waters, looked at each other and said this is it.

We wanted a 2 bedroom, but nothing available with a possible 1-to-2-year wait. As we were about to leave Dave Grassby — Sales — called us back and said I have one I can show you. It is a one bedroom and supposed to be the new hospitality villa. We looked at it with our dog Harry who approved of the good-sized yard, so we said OK we will take it. Panic set in as we drove away — our house was not on the market. It was Tuesday — Wednesday saw Real Estate Agent — Thursday saw Solicitor — Friday on the market. Saturday 10am SOLD. Alloura Waters was meant to be.

As a couple we happily spent 6 years here. Made many friends who we came to call our other family. Got involved in Village life. We could garden if we felt like it, but the wonderful gardeners were always there for us. Maintenance again was there when it was needed, from changing a light bulb, fixing a lock, or replacing any appliances when they broke down — hot water service/microwave/oven — in other words staff are always there. From Manager to office staff and outside staff they were always there with a smile and courteous. We have our own bus, public bus outside the gate and a ferry at the end of the street. Our own library fully stocked with hundreds of books to cover all tastes. Cards and backgammon are other activities along with the pool table. Not to mention our bar and of course our Alloura Waters Band who have everyone singing and dancing when they play.

Alloura Waters has a reputation as being very social. This we found to be true — Happy Hours every Friday and Saturday nights and special events almost every month.

Ken passed away in March 2022 and the support from staff and residents was unparalleled. I am very fortunate to live here with my other family and continue to be involved with committees and activities and life in my forever home is GREAT.
