To mark Homelessness Week, which runs from 2nd to 8th August, Pastor Dale Dowling of The Shack Community Centre in Nambour invited members of the Living Choice Twin Waters Craft Group to visit their premises and see how the craft group’s lovingly made beanies and scarves are put to good use.
Eight members of the group accompanied residents Ian and Maree Lawson for the outing and came away with a better understanding of The Shack’s invaluable work to assist the homeless and others in need. Ian said their first stop was C-Square in Nambour, where they met other community groups which assist The Shack. “We were shown a photographic display of people that The Shack has assisted over the years and then were taken on a tour of The Shack Community Centre in two groups of four. The work they do there is just amazing,” said Ian.
Over the past few years, Living Choice Twin Waters residents have been staunch supporters of The Shack, donating food, clothing, furniture and appliances. The Craft Group has also provided dozens of scarves, beanies, trauma teddies and are now making face masks.
The theme of Homelessness Week is “Everybody Needs A Home” and supporter organisations are being asked to visit their local Federal Members of Parliament and ask them to sign the pledge to build more social housing, create jobs and help end homelessness.
