There were many thought-provoking words of wisdom at the Information Session and Open Day at Living Choice Twin Waters on 5th March. Add a delicious Morning Tea, friendly Resident Ambassadors and the opportunity to view three beautiful display homes and it all added up to a very informative day.
The presentations included a resident’s view of living in a retirement community, wills and estate planning, financial strategies to consider in retirement, home care services and what’s included in the cost of a monthly levy.
While the invited speakers, Derek Sky of Pacific Law and Rhain Williams of Morgans Financial, came with well-prepared notes, resident Lynne Mills discarded her prepared speech and decided to “speak from her heart”. “We are a community and we care about each other. The staff here are wonderful – they know if I’m happy or sad. This leisure centre is like my extended home and everyone feels like my family. Come to the village and feel the care,” she said.
Taking care about passing your assets to your intended beneficiaries in the event of your death was the subject of Derek Sky’s talk and his excellent presentation was delivered with plenty of humour. He highlighted the need for a will, the pitfalls of DIY wills, the importance of regularly reviewing your will, what happens to your Superannuation, tax on death benefit payments and many other important things to consider.
Rhain Williams of Morgans Financial, a Certified Financial Planner and retirement planning specialist, discussed the key financial considerations when downsizing/rightsizing as well as the impact on the Age Pension and strategies to ensure your finances would survive throughout your retirement. Tracy Blair, Living Choice’s State Manager, also listed the many services included in the village’s monthly levy, the extension of Living Choice Home Care services to the surrounding suburbs and the company’s support of the industry’s Code of Conduct.
A big thank-you to our excellent speakers and take a bow, our wonderful resident helpers!
